I am an atheist and I love Christmas.
Celebrating Christmas doesn’t have to be about celebrating the birth of Jesus, in fact historically the 25th December was the date for the Pagan winter solstice and it was also the birth date of the Egyptian god Horus.
Some Scientists believe that Jesus was actually born on June 17th. This date was established after astronomers charted a map of the night sky in Bethlehem over 2000 years ago and discovered that there really was a bright ‘star’, (the christmas star that the 3 wise men allegedly followed to find Jesus) but it appeared on June 17th.
As an atheist and a non-believer in God, christmas for me is more about spending time with the family and loved ones.
Why do atheists celebrate Christmas? Because it is fun!
